Carriers of the Cross / The guild guide

Our Guild

Who we are, where we came from, and why we carry the name.

Welcome to Carriers of the Cross

Carriers of the Cross (CotC) is a Christian-led World of Warcraft guild dedicated to providing a fun, safe, family-friendly community that glorifies Christ.

We want CotC to be a place where Christians can simply be Christians together while enjoying World of Warcraft.

Talk about the Bible. Talk about church. Share what God has been teaching you. Ask for prayer. Encourage one another. Make friends, run dungeons, help each other out, and enjoy the game together.

Christianity isn't something we ask our members to keep tucked away in a designated corner of the community. It's part of who we are.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple:

To glorify God by building a Christ-centered, family-friendly World of Warcraft community where players develop meaningful friendships, encourage one another in faith, and enjoy the game together.

"So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."
— 1 Corinthians 10:31

We want to build a community where people enjoy spending time together, friendships develop naturally, families can comfortably participate, and our conduct toward one another and the wider WoW community reflects Christ well.

We're a World of Warcraft guild first, not a church or ministry pretending to be a gaming guild. We're here to play the game and have fun together.

But we're also intentionally Christian. Our faith naturally comes with us into the game rather than being something we leave at the door.

Everyone Is Welcome

You do not have to be a Christian to join Carriers of the Cross.

CotC is Christian-led, and our beliefs and community standards are grounded in the Christian faith, but membership is open to anyone willing to respect that identity and abide by our community standards.

You're welcome to ask questions about Christianity, participate in discussions, disagree respectfully, or simply enjoy playing World of Warcraft with us.

We aren't interested in treating anyone as a project. Friendship here isn't conditional upon agreeing with us or becoming a Christian.

A Family-Friendly Community

We want CotC to be a place where husbands and wives, parents and children, longtime WoW veterans, and brand-new players can comfortably play together.

That means keeping our language and conversations clean, treating one another with respect, and remembering that the people behind the characters matter more than anything that happens in the game.

For the specifics of what we expect from our members, see our Community Rules.

What We Believe

Carriers of the Cross is grounded in the historic Christian faith summarized in the Apostles' Creed, with Scripture as our final authority for Christian faith and life.

CotC is not a church or denomination, and we expect Christians from a wide variety of traditions and theological backgrounds to call this guild home.

You can read more about our beliefs in our Statement of Faith.

Our History

Carriers of the Cross isn't entirely new.

The original CotC began during the days of The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, when we built a Christian World of Warcraft community where people could play together, build friendships, and openly share their faith.

CotC's founders are a husband-and-wife team who have continued leading and serving in Christian gaming communities in the years since. Along the way we've learned a lot—both about what helps build a healthy community and what doesn't.

Now, with World of Warcraft: Forever, we're bringing Carriers of the Cross back to where it started: World of Warcraft.

We're not trying to recreate the old guild exactly as it was. We're taking what we've learned, building something appropriate for WoW today, and carrying the same mission forward.

Why "Carriers of the Cross"?

Our name comes from Jesus' call to those who would follow Him:

"If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me."
— Matthew 16:24

For us, Carriers of the Cross is more than a guild name. It's a reminder of who we represent and how we're called to live—even while we're running around Azeroth.

Welcome to Carriers of the Cross. We're glad you're here.
