Carriers of the Cross / The guild guide

Guild Life

Shared adventures, everyday friendship, and faith lived together.

Carriers of the Cross is more than a name over our characters' heads. We want to build a community where people know one another, play together, encourage one another, and enjoy World of Warcraft together.

This page covers some of the ways we do that.

Discord

Our Discord server is the primary community hub for CotC outside of the game.

Guild chat is great while we're playing, but Discord gives us a place to stay connected when we're offline, organize groups, share resources, have deeper conversations, and get to know one another.

We also bridge our in-game guild chat with Discord, allowing members in both places to stay connected to the same conversation.

Guild members are strongly encouraged to join Discord and link their account so they can participate fully in the community.

Playing Together

Don't be afraid to ask if anyone wants to group!

Whether you're questing, running a dungeon, hunting down something difficult, or just need help with a quest, guild chat and Discord are there to help us find one another.

Likewise, if you see someone looking for help and you're able to jump in, consider doing so.

CotC isn't about racing everyone to the end of the game. Some of us will level quickly. Others will take their time. Some will want challenging group content, while others may spend an unreasonable amount of time fishing.

There's room for all of us.

Faith & Fellowship

Christian conversation is welcome throughout Carriers of the Cross.

Talk about what you're reading in Scripture. Share something from church. Ask a question. Tell us what God has been teaching you. Ask for prayer. Encourage somebody who's having a difficult week.

You don't have to move a conversation to a secluded corner of Discord simply because it's about Christianity.

However, when a conversation becomes an extended theological discussion or debate, we ask that it move to our dedicated #faith-and-bible Discord channel. This lets deeper conversations continue without taking over in-game guild chat.

Our Statement of Faith establishes the core Christian beliefs of CotC while intentionally leaving room for Christians to disagree on secondary doctrines.

Prayer & Encouragement

We want CotC to be a community where people can ask for prayer and genuinely expect someone to pray for them.

Our Discord includes a dedicated #prayer-and-praise channel for prayer requests, praises, and encouragement.

Please treat personal information shared there with care. Someone trusting the guild with a difficult situation isn't permission to spread that information elsewhere.

Events

Guild events are about giving us reasons to do things together.

These might include dungeon nights, group leveling, raids, world events, social activities, Bible studies, or occasionally something completely ridiculous simply because it sounded fun.

Not every event will appeal to every member, and that's okay. Participation isn't required.

As the guild grows, our events will grow with it. We'd rather organize activities our members actually want to participate in than fill a calendar simply because guilds are supposed to have events.

Helping Build the Community

You don't need to be an Officer to make CotC better.

Welcome someone new.

Invite someone into your group.

Answer a question when you know the answer.

Start a dungeon group instead of waiting for an Officer to organize one.

Encourage somebody.

Pray for someone who asks.

Share something interesting you've learned.

The strongest guild communities aren't built entirely by their leadership. They're built when members begin to see the community as ours, rather than something the Officers provide for everyone else.

Remember Why We're Here

At the end of the day, we're here to enjoy World of Warcraft together.

There will be wipes. There will be bad loot rolls. Someone will pull something they shouldn't. Someone else will get hopelessly lost despite having a map directly in front of them.

People matter more than pixels.

Have fun. Help each other. Build friendships. Extend grace when things go wrong.

And in whatever we do, let's seek to represent Christ well.

"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together... but encouraging one another."
— Hebrews 10:24–25
